An explanation
You can go from recreational to technical scuba diving with the PADI Tec 40 course. Being the first subdivision of the entire PADI Tec Diver course, it bridges the gap between full technical deep decompression diving and no stop diving, making it an excellent location to start. As you have more experience, you start to acquire the information and abilities required to advance in your tec diver training. You will be able to do limited decompression dives up to 130 feet or 40 meters.
- In order to sign up for the Tec 40 course, you need to be:
- An Advanced Open Water Diver with PADI
- An enriched air diver certified by PADI who has made at least ten dives deeper than 18 meters or 60 ft
- Proof of at least ten dives to 30 meters or 100 feet, or a PADI Deep Diver
- 18 years of age or older and with at least 30 dives under their belt
- A medical statement signed by a doctor within the previous 12 months is also required.
Ask your PADI Tec Deep Instructor about any applicable qualifying certificates from other diver training organizations.
Scholarly
Three knowledge-building portions, three hands-on application sessions, and four training dives make up the Tec 40 course. You will discover:
- The dangers and obligations of technical diving
- Technical diving gear, appropriate setup and rigging
- Planning for gas, oxygen restrictions, and decompression
- Techniques for team diving and emergency protocols, including handling free flows, manifold leaks, and out-of-gas scenarios
Tools
You’ll begin by adding technical equipment to your basic scuba diving gear, which basically means you’ll start to double up on gear. You can use side-mounted or back-mounted cylinders when diving. For extra precaution, your PADI Tec Instructor might recommend diving using EANx.
